Royal Christmas Mood - Royal Copenhagen celebrates Christmas at Rosenborg Castle

Royal Christmas 2008 by Royal Copenhagen

This year Royal Copenhagen opens its doors to a sumptuous, evocative Christmas, inspired by Rosenborg Castle’s magnificent architecture and historical atmosphere. The many new products are all deeply rooted in a noble mode of expression which is both classic and royal. Everything is created with the deepest respect for handicraft and the wonderful Christmas traditions which are elegantly and poetically retold and acclaimed.

Royal Copenhagen’s Christmas started in 1857 when one of the porcelain painters at the factory created a little service with Christmas motifs. In the course of its fascinating history, the Royal Danish Porcelain Manufactory, later to become Royal Copenhagen, has created decorations for royal apartments and beautiful drawing rooms. With four collections under the Royal Christmas name, Royal Copenhagen offers this year again a beautiful and elegant selection of the most evocative Christmas decorations in white and gold with a touch of wine red.

Royal Christmas puts the crown on Christmas
This year Royal Copenhagen continues its success with the decorations which this time are based on the king’s crown, referring both to the historic Rosenborg Castle and to Royal Copenhagen’s logo and the tradition-steeped history of the company. The king’s crown has become a beautiful mobile floating royally in space as fine as can be in gold-plated brass with cream coloured ribbons. There are also three decorations with a crown, a bell and a bird, respectively, which are all crowned by a fine little ball in fluted white bone china. The decorations look beautiful both on the tree and in the window. The collection also includes a new candle holder in gold-plated brass which will gleam beautifully on the tree. The little white porcelain dish with its half-lace pattern to collect the wax under the candle clearly refers to the porcelain factory. The candle holder supplements last year’s model which was decorated with a gold-plated bell.

Violise Lunn pays tribute to the festival of hearts
The young, Danish wedding dress designer, Violise Lunn, has again this year created an elegant and feminine Christmas collection for Royal Copenhagen. This year she has designed two wonderful hearts in porcelain for everyone who wishes to mark and celebrate the festival of hearts. The beautiful, organic edges on the sides of the hearts send clear messages to the fine paper models in which Violise Lunn always creates her designs. Violise Lunn has also continued working on her popular series of bowls and vases and has created three simple and elegant tealight holders all in white and gold and which gleam beautifully when the lights are lit. As with her other designs, Violise has transferred her fantastic work in paper to the crisp, refined tealight holders which at the same time are unique, simple and feminine.

Jette Frölich tells the story of Christmas
Jette Frölich is known for her characteristic, traditional designs and for generations she has designed beautiful Christmas collections for Royal Copenhagen. This year she has created a collection which tells the story of the message and traditions of Danish Christmas in a poetic and romantic manner. So the tree can be decorated with gold-plated hearts with decorative holly and fine birds or glass ornaments in deep red and clear, decorated with stylized holly in gold. Jette Frölich’s collection also includes a high-handled cup with a plate, an advent calendar candle, a lantern, brass ornaments, candles and a large, roomy biscuit tin with a beautiful motif.

Star-fluted Christmas with the symbols of the festival
Royal Copenhagen’s beautiful, classic service, Star Fluted Christmas from 1875, oozes nostalgia and Christmas spirit. Christmas symbols twine round a green garland of spruce on the finest cream-coloured bone china. The garland decorates the edge of plates, bowls, dishes and cups, so that they are a true delight for the eye. Angels, hearts and drums are bound together with a large bow of red satin ribbon. The bow is different on each piece, so it looks as if loving hands have set their own stamp on every single one. This year a punch mug made as a thermos mug is being introduced, so you can hold it and enjoy the hot Christmas drinks without burning your hands. There is also a beautiful and decorative tiered cake stand which can be used for Christmas sweets and biscuits.
